„In fact, I was only looking for a gift…”
Looking back on founding his model boat manufactory “Miniboats” with designer Thilo Rösler.

“A friend of mine was turning 50, and I wanted to give him something that would remind him of the many sailing trips we had shared. I decided on giving him a model boat. I wanted him to be able to take the atmosphere and the spirit of the sea with him to his home.

However, disappointment was great at first – finding the right model boat was harder than buying a car! I had been looking for a model boat with a sophisticated design and premium quality which would fit on a sideboard or into a cabinet, but something like this seemed to be non-existent. Despite extensive searching, I was unsuccessful – the only models I found were of about 1m tall – and this is how I came to the idea: Why not make one myself ?
Since I have a personal interest in this type of sailing boat, the first model boat had to be a Folkboat.

This is how the idea for the first model boat was born - the realization was a rather step by step process: construction design, sketching, choosing the materials – who is qualified to do what – manufacturing, assembling, tailoring, distribution and sales promotion.
Today a well coordinated team is responsible for building the model boats.”
